The lovely Miss Georgia - Get to know one of your Little Ballerinas Teachers

26/11/2015

Miss Georgia is everything you think about, when you think of a Dance Teacher. She thrives on it, as do all the Teachers I employ at Little Ballerinas.
When I interviewed Georgia, her true passion for teaching shone through...finally stating teaching is what she had realised she is simply supposed to do.

Georgia holds the teaching qualification of Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies - Royal Academy of Dance and has also completed a Dance Performance qualification - Certificate IV in Performance, having studied full time at Brent Street Studios for that course.

Miss Georgia thoroughly enjoyed and excelled in her learning whilst completing all grades - through to the completion of her RAD Advanced 1 examination being awarded with Distinction.
Georgia has perfomed in an exemplary manner in her RAD Dance training over the years, in Dance at school and very much has an innate excellence & talent in musicality & singing too.

Over the past years Miss Georgia has thoroughly enjoyed performing in the Woolworths Carols in the Domain live on the Seven network from 2001-2009 performing with guest stars such as Hugh Jackman, Tim Campbell, Todd Mckenney, Georgie Parker, Stars from Home and Away, The Wiggles, Adam Brand, Delta Goodrem, Guy Sebastian, Brian Mcfadden and Stan Walker. Georgia's passion for performance in a valuable & appreciative setting extends to performing at the NSW Premiers Seniors Week Gala Concerts at the Entertainment Centre performing a singing duo with Tom Burlinson to ‘High-hopes.'
Georgia also performed the lead role of Annie with a singing solo to ‘Tomorrow' and performed as a back-up dancer for Todd Mckenney.

Georgia has absoluely loved the start of the year at Little Ballerinas.

In Miss Georgia's words...

"If I had to put it down to one word I would have to say that I love the pure "joy" that it brings both the children and myself, to see their eyes light up and their smiling faces whether it be when we are talking about who we are going to see on our many adventures or who is going to come out of Miss Georgia's magic bag makes the whole LB experience so special for the both of us! LB allows me to pass on my love of ballet to young children and in return I get to enjoy the opportunity of seeing how it is interpreted through such a little body.

Children most importantly love to have fun, be creative and express themselves in a physical way and the LB program allows children to do all of these things through the consistency and repetition of what is taught each week during a whole term. This gives children time to learn as individuals at their own level and improve on their ballet skills.
The change up of the 'theme' each term also allows children to learn ballet as well as freely exploring their unlimited imaginations in so many different ways.
Being part of the LB team is a delight and I hope to inspire and make a difference in the little lives of each child that I teach."

Miss Georgia's most favourite thing to when not dancing, is a bit of time out and she loves to go for long walks on the beach or at the park with her dog Harley whilst keeping active.

Discover!

Imagine your child's smile when they see the magical things that get to dance with.
Each term - there are new props - as at Little Ballerinas it's all about the little details.
No prop is programmed into the class unless it will enhance your child's movement acquisition, engage them...and most importantly it has to fit in with the term theme.
So whether it be the circus, a traditional fairytale or something about the beach - your child will be surrounded by a wealth of colour and textures. Believe me the parents get as excited about them as much as the kids do!
Preschool ballet should be fun - we deliver it in a fun way that allows the children to be learning without really realising they are.

A few tips to help get your budding ballerina ready to come to dance class in 2016.

20/11/2015

  • Chat to them about how they will get to dress up in their pink tutu and ballet shoes each week - show them photos from our website.
  • Go and buy their ballet shoes from a dance store - that's an exciting experience in itself for the kids.
  • Talk about how they will get to make new friends and meet a new teacher too. A kind teacher who is there to support and teach them.
  • Take a drive just before the start of ballet term to where the hall is so they can see where they will be coming each week. This helps the parents be ready for day 1 too!
  • Read a ballerina picture story book to them.
  • Let them know there will be fun music, colourful props and lovely things to dance about each ballet class.
  • Let them know that you will either be dancing with them (Petite Ballerinas) or just outside (Fairy Ballet) and will always be there to take them home at the end of the lesson after they get their well deserved sticker.

What age to start dance classes

19/11/2015

You can imagine how many times I have had people ask, "Aren't they too young to be dancing?" Well the size of our school and number of students currently attending and in the past too, demonstrates no!
The truth is, as long as you find age appropriate dance classes, absolutely not.
The ability to start dancing develops in children before they can even speak their first words!! They move rhythmically and start to respond to sounds, they reach up, they bend down, they turn...what we do is turn those natural movements into dance. Through the joy of imagery and lots of enjoyable props that the children engage with, it allows us to extend them even further.
The power of dance is HUGE!
The benefits ballet and dance have on early childhood development is definitely worth understanding....more about that soon!
